The documents German healthcare employers request first

A short checklist of papers that routinely appear in the first employer email — so you are not scrambling the week before an interview.

Folder of organised professional documents

Before a formal offer, most hospital and Pflegeheim recruiters ask for a compact set of proofs. Having them scanned, named clearly, and ready in PDF form shortens every later step.

Standard requests include a current Lebenslauf in German chronological format, nursing diploma with translation, proof of professional experience (Arbeitszeugnisse or detailed references), and language certificates if available.

Identity documents and, where relevant, residence or visa status summaries are requested early when the employer needs to estimate sponsorship timelines. Incomplete answers here stall HR more often than clinical questions do.

If recognition is already underway, include the acknowledgement letter from the competent authority. Employers take candidates more seriously when they see an active file number rather than a vague plan to 'apply later'.

Keep a separate folder for vaccination and health certificates; some stations ask for these only after a conditional offer, but having them ready avoids a second delay. We provide candidates with a naming convention so HR teams can find each file without chasing follow-up emails.
